IMPORTANT NOTICE

Local access to Smith Rock State Park will be severely restricted between the hours of 5:00 AM to 9:30 AM on the day of the race. Ingress and egress for local residents will be limited and your patience will be appreciated. Residents and other park users are so advised and encouraged to limit vehicle traffic at this time. Come on out and cheer on the runners. Volunteer certified flaggers organized by Knife River of Bend, Oregon and the City of Redmond Police Department will be controlling and strictly enforcing traffic safety for all participants. Traffic fines will double in this area during our event.

Race volunteers, spectators and race participants are required to park at the Central Oregon Pumpkin Company located on NE Wilcox Avenue. A bus shuttle to the starting line will be provided starting at about 5:15 AM for your convenience. The buses will load inside the parking lot. Return service back to the Central Oregon Pumpkin Company parking lot will begin about 8:30 AM. Additional parking will be available in the Smith Rock State Park RV parking lot. Ask race staff for assistance and directions.

Any volunteer, spectator and spectator vehicles MUST be in the main Smith Rock State Park RV parking lot no later than 5:30 AM to be assured of access and MUST remain in the parking lot until 8:45 AM to ensure the safety of participants. Come prepared to stay and enjoy the spectacular scenery, finish line, live music, awards, ceremony, prize drawings and event festivities.

DESCRIPTION OF RACE

Description of the Race – This event will feature a timed and certified 15K race on a paved, mostly flat and very scenic course primarily on the rural back roads of Central Oregon. The starting line and finish will be in Smith Rock State Park on NE Crooked River Drive. A special category and accommodations has been made again for our awesome rim chair and hand cycle athletes. All Challenged Athletes are invited to participate in this event.

There will also be a timed 5K Fun Run and Walk. We are also introducing the Central Oregon Pumpkin Company Rock Race for Kids. The Run/Walk course distance is just short of a mile and is designed for kids 1st through 8th grade.  This event will start at 6:30 AM after the start of the 15K and 5K race. This new event is free.  For safety and insurance purposes all children must be registered.

CENTRAL OREGON PUMPKIN COMPANY ROCK RACE FOR KIDS

The Run/Walk course distance is just short of a mile and is designed for kids 1st through 8th grade. This event will start at 6:30 AM just after the start of the 15K and 5K races. This new event is free. For safety and insurance purposes all children must be registered. 

ENTRY FEE

$28.00 for the 15K and $20.00 for the 5K Fun Run and Walk which will include a race T-shirt. There will be a $10.00 late fee for all registrations received after June 28, 2008. Registrations are non-refundable. No entry confirmation will be sent.

RACE START

The start of the 15K for our Challenged Athletes will be 6:00 AM, 15K 6:01 AM and 5K Fun Run/Walk 6:15 AM. 6:30 AM Central Oregon Pumpkin Company Rock Race for Kids.

You can go online to www.active.com . You may also register in person at the Bend Fleet Feet store, 1320 NW Galveston. You may also mail in your registration.

PACKET PICK-UP

Packets can be picked up at the Bend Fleet Feet store, 1320 NW Galveston on Thursday, July 10 from 10-6 PM and on Friday from 10-3 PM. Packets can be picked up at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Bend from 4-8 PM on Friday, July 11, 2008. You are strongly encouraged to pick up your packets at this time. Packets not picked up by Friday will be available (not guaranteed) prior to the race on Saturday morning at the starting line. Day of Race registration starts at 5:15 AM at the park.

CARBO LOAD

There will be a complimentary Pasta dinner for all race registrants and their families from 5-8 PM in Brooks Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church 469 NW Wall Street Bend OR 97701 on Friday, July 11, 2008.       

PROCEEDS

Race will benefit the Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Central Oregon. This community organization of people is dedicated to caring and providing services for the elderly and disabled in Central Oregon. Independent contributions can be made either through our online race registration at www.active.com or included with your mail in registration form. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

AWARDS AND PRIZES 

Plaques, First Place overall M/F OPEN and MASTERS. Ribbons First through Sixth place. The awards ceremony will be conducted in the park. Musical entertainment will be provided by LeRoy Newport and the Sidekicks.

 MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Course medical assistance provided by the Redmond Fire Department EMS unit. Water stations on the 15K course will be at 2, 4, 6, 8 mile marks. On the Fun Run/Walk the water station will be at the mid course mark.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Our race insurance requires no headphones, baby joggers or pets in covered races. Also, to maintain runner safety, all bicycles and autos of event spectators must remain off the race course.
